For the barbers

I’m getting close to realizing my version of Elgar’s unfinished Andante for Violin, Mandolin and Guitar.  Contact me if you are interested in hearing it or perhaps using the score for your group.  I’ll be playing this piece soon with my Austin Mandolin Trio.

Here’s the story.

On January 15 1907, English composer Sir Edward Elgar got a haircut in Capri, after which he ‘woke things up’ by playing a duet for violin and guitar with his barber. Later that day he sketched an unfinished Andantino for Violin, Mandolin and Guitar, labeled it “for the Barbers,” and returned the next day to play again with the barbers. I’ve rediscovered the fragment and am currently realizing it as a trio for two mandolins and guitar.
